Ich saß auf einem Steine
und deckte Bein mit Beine,
Den Ellenbogen stützt ich auf
Und schmiegte in die Hand darauf
Das Kinn und eine Wange.
കല്ലിന്മേൽ കേറിയിരുന്നൂ, പിന്നെ
കാലിന്മേൽ കാൽ കേറ്റി വെച്ചൂ,
ആയതിൽ കൈമുട്ടു കുത്തീ, മുഖം
കൈക്കുമ്പിളിൽ ചേർത്തിരുന്നൂ.
So grübelte ich lange:
Wozu auf Erden dient dies Leben? ...
Und konnte mir nicht Antwort geben,
Wie man drei Ding erwürbe,
Daß keins davon verdürbe.
ആയിരിപ്പിൽ ധ്യാനിച്ചേനെന്നായുസ്സി-
തെമ്മട്ടുവേണം നയിപ്പാൻ
മൂന്നെണ്ണമുണ്ടു പ്രധാനം മണ്ണിൽ
നേടേണ്ടതായ് മർത്യനെന്നാൽ,
തമ്മിലലോസരമില്ലാതവ
നേടാൻ ഞെരുക്കം നിനച്ചാൽ.
Die zwei sind Ehr und irdisch Gut,
Das oft einander Abbruch tut,
Das dritte Gottes Segen,
Der allem überlegen.
Die hätt ich gern in einem Schrein;
Doch leider kann dies niemals sein,
കീർത്തി, സമ്പത്തിവകൾ തമ്മി-
ലൊത്തു പോകാ ഒരു നാളും
ദൈവകൃപയെന്ന മൂന്നാം കാര്യ-
മതേറ്റവും മൂല്യവത്തല്ലോ.
മൂന്നുമൊരു ചെപ്പിനുള്ളിൽ തട്ടി
പൂട്ടയിടാനത്രേ മോഹം,
Daß weltlich Gut und Ehre
Mit Gottes Gnade kehre
In ganz dasselbe Menschenherz.
Sie finden Hemmnis allerwärts;
Untreu hält Hof und Leute,
Gewalt geht aus auf Beute,
Gerechtigkeit und Fried ist wund,
സാധ്യമാവില്ലതു പക്ഷേ ധനം,
കീർത്തി, ദൈവത്തിൻ കൃപയും
ഒന്നിച്ചൊരു ഹൃത്തിനുള്ളിൽ വന്നു
കൂടുവാൻ കാണ്മീല മാർഗ്ഗം,
വഴിയിൽ പതിയിരിക്കുന്നൂ ചതി
അക്രമം വാഴ്വൂ തെരുവിൽ
ശാന്തിയും നീതിയുമേറ്റം മുറി-
വേറ്റു കിടക്കുകയത്രേ.
ഇവ രണ്ടും സ്ഥാപിക്കുവോളം രക്ഷ
ലഭിയാ മറ്റുള്ള മൂന്നിന്നും.
